    Default Strange HD....

I have 2 HDD's, one is divided in 2 partitions, the other just one. But at some time, the HDD with no partitions just quit his job, but not on boot, it happens when I'm in Windows. I'm downloading to it, and then all of a sudden, it makes that cracking-loading noise. For minutes! and then the connection isn't established anymore....

and when that happens, it just dissapears from My Computer, and all the ICO's remain (installed games there)....Also, it keeps cracking.....

    What's this nonsense??? :'(
Anyone knows what to do?! It's a 40 gig Maxtor.....

PS: Never had that problem before...

by cracking, do you mean it keeps trying to access stuff, or does it sound like its pulling itself to pieces?

Hzmm...a 40gig Maxtor eh? I'm having problems with one too, I'd suggest backing up everything and trying a clean format or even a low-level format if you want to.

Take it back to the shop as it's probably still under warrenty and chances are you'll get a brand spanking new 160gb drive.

Hey, does anyone know whether my maxtor drive would be under warranty because although I dont have a warranty ccard, it does say 11 months warranty on the bill in brackets next to the harddrive name...

Go to maxtor.com and select your hard drive model in the upper right hand corner. Pick your issue and you'll be provided with some software to check your hardware. I would only do this if you don't mind the possibility of losing your stuff. Also have a free floppy disk ready. If the diagnostic program doesn't find anything wrong then it may be another hardware issue. best of luck

Maxtors blow. Go with Western Digital. They're very reliable and the prices are good for what you get.

Western Digital? Neh... I chose IBM. The father of the Hard Drive. But their SCSI drives are expensive!!! At least an SCSI card is not that expensive.

Go with an IBM if possible. If you can find one.
