I'm just curious. I've tried Lunar 2: Eternal blue from Emuparadise and Coolrom, and they both seem to work -- with the same quality.

I'm just curious. I've tried Lunar 2: Eternal blue from Emuparadise and Coolrom, and they both seem to work -- with the same quality.
Example:
Because the sound quality is lower on Cool Roms also that can cause issues.
Mp3 is a lossy format that can go out of sync even with perfect syncro settings enabled because the sound file length is not exact to what it should be when it is re-sampled to mp3 this makes some games crash as well as just go out of sync
Even converting mp3 back to wav is not going to work either as the sound length has changed
You may not notice a difference by ear though so it will sound like it's much the same quality and it may be the same Hz ect but it will cause problems with it being a different length (this is by milliseconds so it's not something you can hear by ear but the real console and emulators can crash out the games because of this)
Lossless formats include Raw Wav Ape and tons more and can be converted back to Wav/Raw and keep the original state, lossy formats can't do this and will of lost the original sound length and crc of the original, saying that if you can play a game start to end using mp3 format sound files via emulation I don't see the harm in it, ofr real hardware users I would say avoid mp3 totally and any other lossy formats
We tend to keep the highest quality disc images (though I admit we need to update some of our PSX games and Dreamcast games, I say some as most are perfect images anyway)

I see. So it would be best for me to download Sega CD games from here? Also, does this apply to Playstation bins/ISOs, too?

Yep, but like I said I don't see the harm if you know the game is fully playable/bug free with mp3's, they do take up less space
mp3's can cause slight loops in sound, the wrong track played, loss of sync & crash outs, quality of the sound shouldn't be something you can notice though but the other things are, as it happens these are the same issues that are caused when you try to run games at the wrong frame rate, e.g. running a 50Hz game at 60Hz and vice versa (or framerate)

Come think of it, Lunar the Silver Star (Coolrom download) is pretty out of sync, especially the voice dialog.
Happy I could help and sort of happy that you found something to relate to it's kinda hard to explain this stuff if you have not seen any of it yourself

Indeed. I'm pretty glad that all Sega CD ISOs are now bin format and come with a CUE file, too.
